Star Valley is one of the best-kept secrets in Wyoming.  It offers an abundant supply of unmatched outdoor activities and year round beauty.  From breath taking views while hiking or biking to trophy fishing and hunting, Star Valley has it all.  Towns such as Afton, Thayne, Star Valley Ranch and Alpine are celebrated for their small town charm and available modern technologies.  The streets and schools are safe and friendly.

The valley sits on the slopes of the Salt River Range of the Rocky Mountains.  The northern end of the valley, in the town of Alpine, is the confluence of the Salt, Greys and Snake Rivers, all world class fishing rivers.  The three rivers feed the Palisades reservoir, which is ideal for water recreations in the summer and ice fishing in the winter.  This region also offers world class snow skiing, snowboarding and snow machining for all levels.

Star Valley is 60 miles long and is comprised of 13 communities, of which four are incorporated.  Afton is 70 miles from Jackson; 90 miles from Grand Teton National Park; 185 miles from Yellowstone National Park; 105 miles from Idaho Falls and 215 miles from Salt Lake City.  The valley’s elevations range from 5,600 feet at the north end to 7,000 feet at the south end.  The population varies seasonally, from 11,000 to 15,000 inhabits.

Summers are sunny and mild, leading to spectacular autumns.  Winters find the valley covered in a blanket of sparkling snow.  Star Valley averages 208 sunny days, annual precipitation days of 105, and an annual snowfall of 74 inches on the valley floor.  Temperatures average from a July high of 81 degrees to a January low of 5 degrees.

Lincoln County School District #2 boasts top quality and highly honored academic and athletic programs.  The high school, middle school and four grammar schools are new, thanks to Wyoming’s mineral revenues.  The school district employs a workforce of 540.
